I and neighbor put in a ceiling fan in the bathroom. It seems that the fan is not blowing the steam out. The fan is designed for a larger bathroom. I'm not a electrician but my thinking is to reverse the wiring to the poles so that the fan will work in the correct direction so that it will blow the steam out. One of the problems in my house is that when the house was wired in the 70's they didn't use red, black or white wiring so it makes it difficult to wire things correctly.

Is this a typical bathroom exaust fan that you are installing? All you need to do to find out which lead is common and which is hot is to use a voltage meter, test both leads to ground, whichever has 120 volts is your hot wire. Did this fan come with wiring directions? Does it also have a light?

Does this fan vent into the attic?

No white? If you are ASKING this question, I am assuming you are not rewiring for reverse direction.
Reversing 2 wires on AC motor will not change direction.
DC Motors will reverse if reversing polarity(wires)
Built Machines for use in Europe and Brown was Hot and Blue was Neutal(Return)
What colors are used, May be able to decypher.

If the fan is turning backwards, likely it was wired up wrong at the factory. As already posted, reversing the AC leads will not reverse the direction. Exchange if for a good one.
