    XP won't start
Any suggestions on the following would be appreciated.

Basically XP won't load up in either normal, or safe mode. It gets as far as that XP logo with the black background and sits there. The blue line in that loading bar at the bottom still moves, and the hard drive light blinks on and off about every 2 seconds.

Have tried Safe mode (No go)
Have tried "Last known good configuration" (No luck there either)

    Help?

It may be worth running some form a Hard Disk diagnostics to check the hard disk is running OK. I have had many a faulty PC doing the same thing.

Try searching the IBM website for a program called DFT (Drive Fitness Test), and use this to test your hard disk (will work with all makes of hard disk, just does more advanced testing on IBM Drives), I use this in the field all the time.

Sounds very much like a corrupted Registry. I have fixed this in the past for some people but it involves booting to DOS and copying previous saved versions of Registry files from one place to another. Let me know if you are comfortable going that route and I'll try to dig up a link for you with instructions.

If you have installed any new hardware just before this happened, remove or unplug it. This often will allow your boot process to continue. If you have not installed any new hardware, then you will need to get the original Windows XP cd rom (NOT a restore disk) and do a repair of your current version of XP.

Yeah... maybe it has something to do with the registry... u see, we get online most of the time and we get viruses from time to time without our knowledge... so, try scanning your PC with the updated version of NOrton or something and maybe that will do the trick! ;)

Well he can't get into either regular or safe mode so he can't do that.
