over a month ago, I had a crown down on a bottom back tooth. After several days, I was still not able to bite down on it without pain. I went back to the dentist, and he "adjusted it" and sent me off. That has happened 4 times. Each time he adjusts it and says "that should take care of it." THis last week, I went back because my gums were tender and bleed when I floss. At first he seemed very concerned, but he took x-rays, and said "everything looks fine" the only thing he could see, was that the filling was close to the nerve, but everything looked "OK". He ground it down some more and sent me home. Now It's starting to "ache" a little, and in the morining I have a weird taste in my mouth. I have been using salt water rinses and antibacterial mouthwashes. What could possibly be going on? If there was a root infection, wouldn't it have shown up on the x-ray? I don't think he's going to take any action unless I'm in deep pain screeming!

Rhonda, I would suggest finding another dentist for a second opinion. Something doesn't sound right. I would hazard a guess that there may be an infection, but the only way to know for sure is to have someone else look at it. Your dentists work may need to be corrected and you may need antibiotics.

Did you have the crown done because of tooth decay?
The nerve could just be sensitive or irritated right now.

Do you know what your crown is made of?
This could be contributing to the taste in your mouth.
Some crowns are porcelain fused to metal, and give off a metallic taste for a while.

I would consult another dentist to be on the safe side with infection.
They may also be more willing to do something about the pain.

I agree with the other two users. Find a new dentist.

Absolutely correct,
What one dentist/doctor may miss, another might find.

Something is causing the pain... better safe than sorry...
