    Personal loans
About 5 years ago, my sister borrowed 9,000. She stated she would pay it back in 2 months when her husbands tax return came in ( she lied just to get the money) She has since paid me back by buying some furniture for me on her credit card... She still owes about 4,000. I want to know what is the time limit I have that I can still sue her for the money... She has told me that I'm not getting a penny more and spit in my face... now I want to sue... Can I ?

    Hello fisher:

It depends on two factors: 1) the civil statute of limitations for your state, and 2) how those statutes are interpreted.

The key questions are, when did she buy the furniture, and when did she spit.

What proof do you have that you LOANED her money? What proof do you have of what she owes you?

You could get a lawyer if you can prove that she owes the money, the furniture she bought you should be seen as a payment and an admission of the debt she owes you, if she bought the furniture recently this helps your case.

As said, you have to prove the total she owes you and the only partial repayment.
