If I am a WI resident, but am living in NY, do I pay taxes in both states?
    Hello,
I am living in New York for I'm not sure how long, and since I'm not sure if I am going to be here long enough to think about trying to get residency here, I was wondering if in able to work here would I have to pay taxes to both states (WI and NY)?

    Thank you!

You would file as part-year residents for both states (if you decide to stay), or as a non-resident for NY and a full-year resident for WI.

In either case, have money withheld for money earned in NY. You MUST file a tax return regardless, and NY state tax rates are among the highest in the U.S. It will be a nasty shock from April 2008 if you do not have money withheld.
