    Irregular Periods
Hi I'm 19 and I've had irregular periods since I got them at 14. I'm a virgin so I know it's not pregnancy. I'm not sure what it can be and I don't want it to be anything serious. I have my first gyn appointment in about a week or so. I guess I want to know if this is normal or common and if it's usually a quick fix with medication or something simple. No surgery or invasive procedure. Please reply soon I'm nervous, and want some peace or mind for the next week or so.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I got my period at 13, and they were never ever regular. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which caused mine. I would be sure to ask about that with your doctor because knowing early could help in the long run. But then there are some women who just aren't ever regular and there's not really a reason. Birth control pills can regulate your periods. If you aren't planning on becoming pregnant for awhile, they are a great solution to become regular. If you go several months without a period, taking progesterone for 5-10 days can cause a period. I had to do this quite often as my dr did not like me going more than 3 months without a period. Anyway, try not to worry. Most likely you are perfectly fine. :-)
