Hello all

Im posting because I took a call the other day from a collection agency claiming that I have a debt going all the way back to 1996.

I did not acknowledge the debt on the phone.

I did ask them to send complete documentation verifying their claims they have not done so.

Lastly I did have a credit card debt back then.. but I have paid if off years ago.

I live in Ontario and I have quickly gone through the SOL for this province. Any information forthcoming from the community would be appreciated however.

Well, the statute of limitations is passed so don't worry, they can't sue you. Basically all they can do is call and harass you a bit.

Basically don't do anything until they send you some kind of statement with the card number and amount they are trying to collect, then send them back some sort of proof of payment to whoever (the card company or other collection agency) and demand they take it off your credit report and stop contacting you.

You should be fine, they probably bought the debt around the same time you paid it and are not aware it was paid to someone else.
