Transferring money from Egypt to Britain
My Egyptian grandfather was a wealthy businessman in Egypt. However, Nasser (Egyptian prime minister) came to power and nationalised everything. My grandfather lost all that both he and his father had worked for all their lives. My mother spent nearly 50 years of her life fighting to get compensation. Sadly, it came through too late. In march this year the case was won... however my mother passed away in Jan '06. Now we, her daughters in the UK (as she was from 1948), will be receiving this compensation amount, split between 4 of us.
Do we have to pay anything in the UK tax or anything else wise?
