SUBJECT: A Repeating application error message.

    1. Description of the problem:

Several times a day while I'm working at my computer,
the following occurs. I click on an icon
or try the use Mozilla FireFox v1.0.2.
The following application error meassge appears.

    " Explorer.exe - apllication error.
The insturction at "0x73405be" referenced memory at " 0x73405be".
The memory could not be read".

When I click "Cancel Button", this should debug the problem.
    The following occurs.
All the icons on my desktop disappear. Only the wallpaper remains.
After thirty seconds, the icon bar reappears.
One minute later, the default incons returns.
One minute later, the applied icons cover over the default icons.
Finally, the utility I wanted to use kicks in.
This is an irrating wait let me tell you.

    2. After fiddling around with my computer,
I think the following is behind the problem.

    A. Windows XP Messenger program tries to kick in.

    B. Next, Windows XP Explorer Internet program tries to kick in.

    C. Next, the application message appears.

    D. Then, what has already been explained.

    3. If my assumption are correct,

    A. How do I shut down the Windows XP messenger program?

    B. How do I make Mozilla FireFox v1.0.2
the dominant internet program in my operating environment?

    Thank You!

    Awaiting your response...

    Firefox
    Hi,
I don't use Firefox, but sounds like you need to set it as your "default browser".
Your system is still looking for Internet Explorer.
If you still have it installed, click on Tools at the top, then Internet Options.
Click on the Programs tab, and at the bottom, uncheck "Internet Explorer should check to see if it's the default browser".

There should be an option in Firefox to set it as the default.
    Best wishes,
    fredg
PS; Go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and if Messenger is listed, remove it.
