My ABS light came on and stayed on. I shut the car off and then restarted it but the light came back on and stayed on again.

Any idea what the problem can be?

Possibly a sensor has gone bad. Have it checked for error codes

I think sometimes this lights double as a fluid level warning. Check the fluid level in addition to the sensors. Often the reservoir is translucent and you can see the level without taking the cap off. If the fluid is low, only top up with brake fluid. Then check all 4 wheels for any sign of leakage. A small leak can suddenly become large enough for the brakes to fail.
