2004 Ford Explorer Turn Signal Rapid Flash
Our 2004 Ford Explorer recently developed the following behaviour. Using the left hand turn indicator position, we get a rapid blinking sound in the cabin - the front left blinker flashes double time but nothing lights up in the rear. I checked the light bulbs and all seems good (swapped left to the right side and it worked fine).

Is this the flasher module? Are there more than one in this unit? (one for left and right each)

    Thanks in advance

In every occasion that this has happened to me changing the bulb did the trick. So I would buy a new bulb, replace it and while doing so I would check to make sure that there is not corrosion on the contacts.

Yup!. well sort of. I changed the offending bulb with no change - left hand signal still not operational. But when I changed its righ-hand companion we had success! Corrosion was not spotted, but the plunking in a fresh bulb may have been all that was needed.

My parts guy suggested changing all four corners - sounded like a sales pitch to me. Then again, when I think of the number of times I've had to change the incandescents in my house with various bulbs going within days of each other, well, you get the picture.

As an aside my mechanic friend confirms on occasion having to change all four corners to resolve newer vehicle problems of the same type.

    Thanks

The rapid flashing and clicking indicates that one of the bulbs has burned out. Turn on the signal, get out of the vehicle and see if it's the front or rear that is not working. Go to auto parts store and identify the bulb needed. They are very common. The real issue is getting into the back of the light assembly. Once you do that just plug in new bulb and you're good to go. Front lights are easier to access, but both can be done without paying dealer labor charges.

If your bulbs are fine just tilt the steering up one notch. I couldn't believe it either but this worked on my 2002 Sport Trac. I tilt it down and get the fast blink front left only. Tilt it back up and works fine.

Question when I have my hazar light switch on, they don't blink. And also my turning signals will not work I have to do it manual. What can I do to fix the problem?
