How would you deter Russia ?
Russia's "wealth" is in exporting oil and gas. That is where Russia could be targeted . When Trump left office the US was a net exporter . Now we beg the Saudi's to pump more oil and we purchase oil from Russia . So we are in a weaker position to impose a solution than we were .

As for Europe ,they went all Greta .

Europe is dependent of Russian gas because they shut down their own energy flow except for a small amount they get when the sun shines and the windmills turn. France at least has nuclear energy .

The best answer would be to block Russian energy exports and to ramp up our own energy production.

Is that Clueless' plan ? Nah . He recently blocked new oil and gas leases on Federal lands . As for blocking Russia's exports Clueless said "You know, in our sanctions package, we specifically designed to allow energy payments to continue."

Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics Daleep Singh when asked in a presser by Reuters Steve Holland "Targeting the Russian energy industry is totally on the table? is that what you are saying, Daleep?" replied "What I'm saying that our measures were not designed to disrupt--in any way--the current flow of energy from Russia to the world."

So at a time where gas has gone over $100 /bb . We just assured Putin that his piggy bank will be replenished with western $$$$ .

Biden has behaved poorly with energy. He seems to be more interested in placating the "Green New Deal" wing of the dems rather than doing what is sensible. I don't discount the threat of climate change. I imagine that increasing by about 30% the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere (though it is still only 400 ppm, an astonishingly small component) is not a very good idea, but that problem did not develop overnight and it won't be solved overnight. The input of liberal dem zealots and non-thinkers like AOC does not bode well.
