    Child Support Enforcement
My husband and I have had custody of a cousin's son for 8 months. Prior to our getting the child, his paternal grandmother had him for 1 week. Just long enough to try to adopt him out and stop the child support payments. I have filed a claim with our county in Florida, the same county in which the Father resides and has the child support order. I was told that it may take anywhere from 6 months to a year for this to go to court. Is this normal in the state of Florida for a current child support order to go to court if the child is placed in temporary custody with someone besides the mother? Do we have any chance of making this guy pay on his existing order?

There are emergancy orders and other things that may be able to be filed, can I guess you are not using an attorney ?

Often an attorney can help get things on dockets sooner or know other motions to file.

Are you using the Child Support Enforcement office. They could probably help here since they work directly with the District Attorney's office.
