    How to avoid red/orange shade?
I have natural black asian hair.

I had never dye my hair before and I want to dye it CHOCOLATE BROWN.

But I had seen many people with black asian hair that intend to dye their hair BROWN and end up reddish/orange brown.

I want to dye my hair at home as the salons are too costly.

So how can I dye it BROWN without the red/orange shade?

Choose a ash brown color. Read on the box of hair dye and make sure it says ASH... and stay away from golds, they always turn orange/redish colors.

Black hair contains red pigment in it, and if you apply a permanent color over black hair, it will result in a red/orange shade. Using an ash brown color on your hair will not make it lighter. Color does not lift color. Ash colors are good for dark hair, however, you will still have some red/orange hue in your hair since dark hair have a lot of red pigment in it. If you want to go a few shades lighter, you will need use a lightening product. I suggest that you go get your hair professionally done. A hairstylist can use the right color formula with a higher volume peroxide developer to try and achieve your desired color, minus the red/orange shade.
