Is it madatory for Landlords to offer recipts when paying rent?

If it is not mandatory, why wouldn't a landlord want to give a receipt for the rent? It proves two things - one, the landlord got paid and two, the tenant paid it. Unless the landlord is crooked and wants to later state that he/she never got paid and then the tenant cannot prove a darn thing! Give a receipt, for your own protection and record keeping. Unless you do not want that money on the books. Then that is another matter.

I looked all over too and I can't find anything about it. I didn't find that it's mandatory for you to get one when you pay but I did find that it's strongly advisable that you get one when you pay in cash.

And that that was a joke excon was making, you know not a law to have to give one, but a law you had to get one. I hope it was, since I was laughing out of my chair.

But this of course is why never to pay in cash, always pay by check so you have a paper trail. Your bank records will be your reciepts
