I'm having problems with high limit switch tripping every 5 to 10 minutes, code 33 on Carrier 58sta070 13112 manufactured 2008. Flue is clean, blower has new capacitor and runs fine on fan, new thermostat, no blocked registers and good airflow, only shuts down when filter is put in even with the thinnest one I can find. 16X20X1, but manual says 16X25X1 is needed. Is it probable that this is causing my problem?
Both are both just as thick, 1"... ones a lot smaller around than the other. Length x Width x thickness (height in this case) , but air should be flowing AROUND it in this case.. at least partially depending on how much overlap you have.Quote:

Yes sir, I did and had it cleaned. Also the blower motor and wheel are cleaned, flame sensor is new. No cracks in exchanger.
If you are you getting good airflow through the registers, the flue is clean and no flame spill out, I'd replace the limit switch. Does yours auto reset or do you push a button? They are typically less than $10. If it still continues, I would say blocked airflow in the system.
If your furnace runs fine without the filter, then you are not getting enough air flow to move the heat build up, which triggers the code 33. It may be the type of filter, and you need one that allows more air to be sucked in, or you may have to do as this smart fellow did,Quote:

It may be some changes have been made, unless somebody screwed up, if your model calls for a larger filter than you can fit. Something to check, and verify. At this point, though, you must also verify your induction motor is moving air properly, even after you changed the capacitor and cleaned the blades (squirrel cage thingy). That's done with a multi meter.
I verified the correct size filter for your furnace, and it does not match what you have...WTF?!

Thank you all for your time and input. Besides replacing the high limit switch, I fear the rest of this is out of my limits and I'll need to call in a technician. I appreciate your input
