    Moving expenses
    Hi,
I am moving from NYC to Chicago for work. Currently, my plan is to ship my stuff at the end of the Calendar Year and take a flight on 1st Jan.

I wanted to see which year I can take these expenses as deductible this year (when I pay for them) or when I am physically moving (1st Jan 2018)?

    Any advice/help appreciated.

    Thanks

I would pay for all costs including the airfare this year, and not worry about those few hours of flight in 2018.

(Plan on extra days without your belongings. Shippers will be slowed by weather, traffic, and some drivers who stop to see family on the way. Get a 'window' guarantee, and a way to get daily reports.)
