    Herpes/interstitial cystitis
About 8 months ago I went to the doctors and got diagnosed with genital herpes simplex 1. after that I was given valtrex and the blisters went away. 2 weeks later I got my first urinary tract infection in my life. I was given 2 different antibiotics and the infection went away but the constant and frequent urination did not! I visited several uro-gyns and gyns and was sent for a cystoscopy and was told my bladder bled when it was filled with water (hydrodistentioned) and told I had interstitial cystitis. I read a lot about this condition and was under the impression that sexually transmitted diseases has to be ruled out in order to be diagnosed with this. I don't think I have interstitial cystitis because this all started when I got herpes! I never had a bladder problem in my life. Does anyone have any idea what can be causing my frequent urination with no infection?can it be the herpes? Pleeeeease help!

Unfortunately, I have not been through my "female" rotation, that comes this fall, but I will try to help from what little about this condition I do know.

Have you read this website? It sounds as though your doctors are on the right path by doing a cystoscopy first. Unfortuately there are a number of tests that need to be done to correctly identify IC.
