Live in NJ but pay NY state taxes?
    Hi,

I live in NJ but I work in New York. I took a look at my pay stub and I'm paying Federal and NY state taxes but I am not paying NJ state taxes. Is this correct? I'm concerned that next year I will have to file a NJ state tax return and will not be credited for paying the NY state taxes and will end up owing NJ.

Last year I lived in VA but worked in MD. I paid federal and VA state taxes but did not pay MD state taxes. This is totally opposite of what I'm doing here in NJ/NY so that is why I'm asking.

    Thanks in advance.

    That is correct.

NJ will give you a credit for the NY taxes paid which will most likely completely offset any NJ taxes you would owe.
