Hi, hope you can help figure out what's going on with my outside GFIC receptacle... it was used for a pool before and now I use it for my pond pump... I installed a new GFIC in the fall when it seemed the old one wasn't working but the new one does not work either... I've changed them before and had no problem... I just plug in a light with a 30 watt bulb in it and it the GFIC pops... the following is the wiring setup... in home 20 amp breaker to the timer switch to a 20 amp gfic to the outside switch to the 20 amp gfic... at this point it just pops a light I hook up to check if it is working... could it be I am one of the lucky ones to purchase a bad GFIC?. please advise. You can't have 1 GFCI power another one because of Neutral imbalance. You don't need the second one, make sure the switch is load side on the first one, just a regular outlet is sufficient.

You likely have a wiring error.. It would be a surprise to find a faulty GFI right from the box.
Carefully check all the neutrals and equipment grounds, if a GFI is tripping it is likely a neutral somewhere is contacting ground. To trouble shoot this, remove the light, the pump, everything you can from the circuit until the GFI stays on. Then add each device one at a time until the GFI trips. That may help you solve your dilemma...!

The "Load side" Hot and neutral must be equal load. The Hot to the switch must be on load side. Load Neutral can only be hooked up to loads that are connected to GFI load hots.
