Can you adapt these interior doors as closet doors? If you buy the hardware separately

Yes! Hollow core doors are solid around the edges, so you can trim a bit. The bottom edge usually has the most solid.
Having 2 doors on hinges that close in the middle can be a little problematic when there's nothing but air there. It's no fun to have a middle post, so consider either a bypass set on a top track, or cutting the door edges where they meet so that they overlap 1/2". Hinges will take a bit of space so it can all still fit in 48".
Another option is magnetic stops top and bottom. Not sure how easy those would be to find. You could even buy 8 little magnets and make your own.

Thanks Yes it would be a bypass set. I would have to find a track. The adjustable wheels come is sets. One for the front door and the other for the rear door. I wonder how they will fit a interior door? Might work

As long as they are for the same door thickness, they will work.
I googled '48" bypass door hardware' and got tons. They only one I looked at didn't specify door thickness, so go look at HD or Lowes.

Since you need the track, get a complete kit.
They have different sized offsets and I don't know how those numbers apply to different door thicknesses. Others might know.

HD carries the hardware for bypass doors. However, why not a bifold? Cheaper and easier to install. HD wants more for just the bypass tracks than they want for a 48" bifold door set.

My whole house came with bypass doors. I'm no fan of them either. I'm not really a fan of bifold either, but at least they give you access to the whole closet at once. I'd get nice bifolds, with raised panels.

If you already have the doors, you will not be able to install them as sliders(by pass). The finished opening for sliders is 1 inch lees then the size of doors. Using 24" doors the opening should be 49".

There is only on way to install 24" doors.That would be hinge mounted to the side jambs. The doors may have to be planed about a 1/4" to fit.

Because of height doors will have to be cut. If cut is higher then the bottom rail, peel veneer off and glue and clamp it into void.

If you can return the doors, it might be best to opt for bifold.
