What are my chances of keeping my daughter?
My daughter, my boyfriend, and myself all live together currently in Michigan. I am thinking of leaving him but in the past he has told me that if I leave him his mom and dad will pay for lawyers and I will lose my daughter.. I Don't WANT TO LOSE HER. I am a stay at home mom and have been since my daughter was born. What are my chances that he will be able to take her away from me. I can not afford a lawyer nor can my family. I have no clue what to do. I am not happy here. But I don't want to lose my daughter. Please let me know what you think .I have no clue what to do all I know is I love my daughter.

    Hello Eliza:

If you've been a bad mother, his chances are good. If you've been a good mother, his chances are bad.

Very rarely do the courts take the child away from the mother. Unless there is proof that you have hurt your child. Or you are not capable of taking care of your child, will your child get taken away. The courts try to keep the child with the mother most of the time. So it really doesn't matter if your boyfriend gets lawyers involved... you will most likely not lose your child.

I agree, he may get visitation, but unless you are hurting her, you will keep her.

Abusive men threaten their wife's or girlfriends with this all the time, Most likely his next threat will be that he will kill you if you leave, ( expect it, it is what men like them do)

They want to control your life.

If you are a good mother, almost never does the court take the baby away, the father will most likely get visitation.

You should run away from any man who threatens to control you.
