Decrying the number of people not working,Trump said, “NINETY-FOUR MILLION AMERICANS ARE OUT OF THE LABOR FORCE”.

That number includes the following:

High school students over the age of 15 who are in school.
College students in school.
People who are disabled and can’t work.
Parents raising children at home.
And MILLIONS of retirees.

Trump made this grossly misleading statement before Congress on February 28, 2017. More evidence of a skewed mental apparatus that cannot see the world as it actually is.

With such bizarre inaccuracy, how can anyone believe ANYTHING that comes out of the mouth of this strange creature?

The 'non-participating labor force' includes ANYONE who ever had a reported income from age 16 to death, even if that was a summer job and they never worked again.
Of course there are over 90 million. Baby boomers have been retiring at the rate of 10,000 PER DAY for the last several years (my DOB in 1946 is the first year).
I came up with some guesstimate numbers as best I could research, not easy, to explain over 90 million. Too long to retype here.
First I subtracted all 16 and 17 year olds, and all over 65, and all who are employed,* and that left 55 million to explain.
2 million are in prison
11 million are in college with no job
11 million are mothers at home, not working
14 million are disabled and not working

*employed gets confusing, because federal, USPS, military, and seasonal ag employees are not counted, and they number 5 million.

I haven't explained 55-38=17 million. There's always drug dealers, other criminals running around, off grid people, and so on... plus, my estimates for mothers at home was a huge guess based mostly on birth rates.
17 million is 1/20th of the population. It could be the number on flat out welfare who are not disabled. I hope not.

It was 95,102,000 in December . It's called the labor force participation rate and it is a real indicator of jobs in the country .Anyone who thinks that is healthy for the country is nuts . The real unemployment rate in the country U-6 is 9.4 % and that sucks by anyone's measure .

Yeah, we all know all that. The point was how Trump used it as a scare tactic and has been using it all during his campaign never acknowledging that millions in that figure are not job-seekers. It is unclear whether Trump understands that or not.

According to interviews, his followers believe it is the number of unemployed.

He scared me when he proposed as a solution a $ trillion infrastructure stimulus package . I guess he thinks he'll be a better manager of those shovel ready projects . He fulfilled a progressive's wet dream . In fact when you combine his coarse and crude demeanor , and the way he brow beats the press ;with his liberal social policies ,he reminds me a lot of LBJ .

What you have to do Tom is compare it to the emloyment vacancies what is left over is the opportunity potential

This is what I know . herr Donald's idea of bringing factory jobs back in any significant manor is a fantasy .The low skilled jobs are being replaced with automation and we have over 5 million jobs waiting for qualified applicants that remain unfilled .

What I do know is that I am in the middle of a large demographic that is set to retire from the workforce by 2020 ,and we do not have the equivalent number of 20-30 somethings to fill that gap . Already there is talk of raising the eligibility of Social Security into the 70s .(Roe v Wade ? )

A significant number of labor left the work force once Obamacare became available to them . The only reason they were working was for the insurance .


Here is another thing . Back in 2009 the country shred 8 million private sector jobs. The public work force(local ,state ,federal) remained a consistent 16 % apx of the labor force ....about 22.4 million worked in government.Government didn’t start cutting back employment until the late stages of the downturn because the stimulus propped up spending. Only when the stimulus money ran out did local and state government consider cutting it's staffing even though there were fewer wage earners to support their pay. The Federal payroll grow from2.636 million at the end of 2007 to 2.756 million in 2011 while millions of Americans lost their jobs. Government should not be the foundation of employment

Why not? Isn't the armed forces also a part of government (AND there are no "wars" right now either, yet Trump wants MO'MONEY for the military and a tax break)? Funny when Obama had an infrastructure bill that made sense and was paid for with a slight tax increase for the wealthy repubs scoffed. Now the right wants their tax plan and pay for it and the deficit it causes with "GROWTH"!

Tom government must create the environment, investment only takes place in certain conditions, the government has become the employer of choice because only it offers long term stability, the more traditional forms of long term employment have faded, it maybe time to rethink the structure of the ecomony and see the engine as small business rather than big business

Employers/job creators took the Bush tax cuts and ran for cheap labor and tax havens, after bankers screwed the economy, and Bush started a couple of wars. Sure you want your government to cut stuff average Americans work for, and depend on to give rich, greedy, capitalists MO'Money?
