Consequences of sending a nasty email
If someone had sent a really nasty (swearing at me and falsely accusing my partner of cheating) message to me on face book using a fake account (but this was say 5 years ago) and that person has now shut down their account after sending that message straight away, can I still take this to the authorities?

Also I presume the account was fake as it is now inactive.

What would happen if this person is not in the same country as me?

One email you suck it up and grow a thicker skin (figuratively speaking)... if it was 20 emails you might have a case.

If they are in a different country... then there is really nothing you are anyone can do except ignore them or set your email to direct anything from them directly to your trash bin.

This was 5 years ago? Nothing you can do now, you waited too long.

I seriously doubt any authority will listen to, or have time to settle a 5 year old grievance unless you have 5 years of complaints documented from then to NOW. If they have left you alone since then, you should do the same, and get beyond this rather old tiff.

I don't see any laws being broken here. So even if it just occurred nothing is going to happen. There would have to be a pattern of harassment for anything to be done. Even then it would be very hard.
