I just moved to city of chesapeake, va into 4 apartment building, boxes inside. Sometimes outgoing mail will wait for over a week to be picked up. Post office told me to walk over a mile to their office to drop it off. Since May I've had over 10 letters from SS, my insurance and the city of Chesapeake and VA beach never delivered, yet told to me when I didn't respond that their systems said they were delivered because they were "not shown undelivered", meaning that they weren't sent back for some reason, so they were basically lost.

Pretty much my mail carrier is a complete jackass and the post office doesn't care. I've called them a few times now, the latest time I lost my medicade and hmo cause the paperwork was lost... what can I do to get this right? I've never had this happen in my life! I don't have a vehicle and I need to have reliable mail service.

Have you been to your local post office and asked to speak to the manager? I get better service when I meet with our postmaster in person. If that doesn't work, then ask to speak to his or her supervisor. There is a regional post office that is in charge of our local post office. That gets the job done when we have complaints with our local post office.

Is the mailbox you currently have a multi mailbox? If so then you shouldn't expect outgoing mail. The carrier usually has a common key and the whole thing tilts.

Do you have senior services in your town or ones that can help the disabled? Also an option would be to rent a PO box. That way when you go to the post office you can send and receive mail.

In multi-unit buildings with common mailboxes, they assume anything in it is the previous days mail. I would never let an outgoing letter sit out hoping the mailman got it before some passerby decides they want to see if there is money in it.

And that goes back 35 years to when I got my first apartment, and it wasn't in a bad neighborhood. Leave it laying out, and they aren't responsible for what happens to it before they get it.

I always took them to a mailbox (the big blue ones) or the post office. That way I knew they actually made it to the post office.

By the way, even the single family home single mailboxes, they don't pick up unless the flag is raised. That's how its ALWAYS been, at least in my 55 years on the planet.

The mail carriers don't have time to look at every piece in the box to see if its new or not...a lot of people only check their mailbox every few days or might be out of town a day or more.

We each have a little box inside with a flag thingy, and the mail going missing is incoming, I'm verifying that, they're screwing up. The carrier is just not doing anything with my outgoing for some reason, I think they're just not even coming in the building. 3 out of 4 apartments are rented so I cant imagine nobody getting ANY mail for 4 days. The closest blue thing is the post office over a mile away and I'm not interested in walking there just to send out stuff, that's ridiculous, that's what my frigin mailbox is for. I'll try the going in person and talking to the regional post office supervisor, that seems like the way to go, thanks.

Is there some way you and the others in the building could set up an alternate mailbox outside the building? Or get a box at the Post Office and hitch a ride with someone several times a week? I (and many others I know) have problems with outgoing mail not being picked up and incoming mail not being delivered (ending up at a neighbor's or who knows where), and I'm in a house. The Post Office is not what it used to be. My solution that does work for a while is to talk with the Postmaster at my postal facility. Maybe you can do that by phone.

You need to have a talk with the post master, in person. With all the dates and examples.

Also you need to discuss if this is considered a legal post box , since you said it inside, and not outside or roadside.
