    Heat pump compressor is dead
The compressor on my 13-year old Lenox heat pump is dead and I've been burning oil unnecessarily. Should I invest in a new heat pump or should I repair what I have? My husband is 77 and I'm 73. We don't know how much longer we'll live in this house. Does it pay to buy a new heat pump? (There is a 10-year warranty on compressors) We have to make a quick decision. Thanks.

Who said the compressor was dead? There are many things that can make a heat pump stop working other than a defective compressor. Heating with oil is usually cheaper than heating with a heat pump.
