My elderly golden retriever, who must stay indoors, had been urinating on my jute rug and my seagrass rug for AWHILE before I realized it. Now the stains have spread and there are new ones. What is an effective DIY way to clean them. And, if possible to deter her from continuing to urinate on them??

Being an organic substances, jute and sea grass, it will be extremely difficult to remove residual traces of urine and metabolites. There are many products available to try, but with a dog's nose, I do not believe you will ever stop the dog from "knowing" the spot. You would be better to discard the rugs and have nothing. If possible, confine her to a restricted area without rugs.

Rug, to me, means an area rug, removable, and easily replaced. So remove and replace.

Elderly dog means a dog that may not have control of her bowels or urine outake.

Old age sucks, for both humans and pets. Make her life as comfortable as possible. If it means having to pick up puddles and poo piles, so be it. She's old, and she deserves to be cared for during this time, like all the elderly do.

Let her have the rug for now, it obviously brings her comfort. Once she's passed, which sounds like it's coming soon, then remove and replace the rug. I'm sure you'll miss her more than it when the time comes.
