I just received a 5-day notice to pay or quit. I live in Fairfax County, Va. If I cannot come up with the money by 5 days, will they put my stuff out? Or do I have more time?

Legally they should then file for an eviction in court, but this is your last chance to pay and stay. So if you don't pay by then, you can assume you will have to move.
Plus once they file for an eviction in court, you will owe them court and filing costs also.
Only worry would be if they do not follow the law.
No the 5 day pay or quit notice is the first step in the eviction process. If you don't pay they will file for an unlawful detainer on the 6th day. A hearing will be scheduled. At the hearing, unless you can show cause why you shouldn't be evicted, then an eviction order will be issued giving you a few days to leave. If you still don't vacate, a sheriff will be hired to put your things out.
