Tub overflow assembly has standard dimensions, therefore should fit most of the tubs - especially Kohler Villager model tub. Some tubs are deeper therefore require a bit longer overflow tube - but that doesn't apply to Kohler Villager tub which has standard dimensions.

There is no reason to take the tub out. By removing the tub, he won't gain anything as the replacement tub will be exactly the same.

    Hi Rich

A tile man has no business installing a tub. Any tub installation... new or replacement... requires that a plumbing permit be pulled and the work inspected by the local plumbing inspector.

Like Milo said, a Kohler villager tub is a standard tub so your universal tub waste and overflow should have worked just fine. At this point, I'd bring a licensed plumber in as something is "amiss" and you do not want to pay additional monies if this guy has or is making a mistake here... especially in terms of the long run if he is RIGGING something, right?!

    Good luck!
