Hello, I'm trying to find out what the symptoms of mercury (ll)oxide posioning are by inhalation of vapour or absoption through the skin. Mercury(ll)oxide reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach and is converted into mercury (ll) chloride. I checked msds documentation online to try and find the symptoms of mercury (ll) oxide posioning via inhalation or absorption through the skin but could find the symptoms.

You will test positive for it long before you will have symptoms.

I think I know what your saying. It only takes a very small amount. I think one would develop symptoms from trace amounts. I'm not a chemist. I don't know.

It doesn't take a lot to do damage. So early detection is always best.

Big difference between elemental Hg and Mercuric oxide. Mercuric oxide is an acute poison, elemental Mercury is a chronic poison. Since Hg does not react with HCl, it will not make HgCl2 in your stomach. Mercuric Oxide does not "vaporize" unless heated. Mercury poisoning is well confirmed, "a nervous and sometimes bizarre behavior" is common-Think the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. Look up the MSDS for Mercuric Oxide and then Mercury. What is your concern? Do you think you were exposed? Tooth fillings originally had Mercury in them as an amalgam but nobody died from that.
