    Saving ball out of bounds
Can a player run and save the ball, keep it in play but he himself runs out because he couldn't stop, then come back in and pick up the ball or is this a violation?

So... he keeps the ball in play but runs out, then comes back in and gets the ball.

violation to come back in and get the ball. I think it's that way in any game such as hockey, football, soccer, volleyball, etc. The coach would enlighten you on this.

Not in soccer. In soccer it only matters where the ball is. So you could be standing outside and dribbling the ball that's inside the field.

And what does volleyball have to do with anything here? You can't touch the ball twice in a row no matter what. Also where does hockey fit in? There is no out of bounds in hockey and if there is not like you can jump out and came back in.

To make sure you understand me, the ball is going out, you run and stop the ball from going out. So the ball is bouncing up and down on the courT (inside), while you however couldn't stop and are outside. So you stop, turn around, walk back into the court and pick up the ball.

Violation or not? And if it is, what violation and why?

Okay, Mr. sticks, you still don't say what game you are playing, and I beg to differ with the soccer call. If a player dribbles, runs over the line and goes back in to get the ball, then the game is called and it's a 'throw in'. I am talking about Canadian soccer, and I don't know where you are from, but no matter where soccer is played, rules are the same.

You need a sense of humour, buddy, I was only kidding about the volleyball, and the hockey, well, that is a major Canadian sport, so you can't tell me the rules on that one!

My canadian friend, did you watch Chelsea vs Liverpool today?

If you did you would have noticed players standing outside the field, beyond the side lines and dribbling/passing the ball.

In soccer you CAN definitely be outside and touching the ball as long as the ball is inside or on line.

I am sorry I did not specify what sport. The sport in question was basketball. It has been answered on a different thread on officiating.com website. It is legal as long as you establish yourself inbounds before touching the ball.

In basketball, you can touch the ball again only after establishing yourself back on the court (i.e. coming back on the court w/ both feet before touching the ball). And in soccer it doesn't matter where the player's feet are as long as the ENTIRE ball has not left the field of play. (In Canada or anywhere else).
