3 days late and tender breasts are not meaningful. It's too soon for a pregnancy test. All you can do is wait another week, at least, and keep testing. If you aren't trying to get pregnant, get the pill or patch. What birth control are you using?

With the better sensitivity of newer tests, some women will get a positive result as soon as their period is late, some even shortly before a period is due (if they are indeed pregnant), many will need to wait a little longer. Much depends on when you may have ovulated, when implantation occurs, sensitivity of the test, and of course whether you are actually pregnant.

Since cycles can be off now and then, causing periods to be late, give it a bit more time, as it could be that your period is about to start.

If still no period, try another test, making sure to follow the directions carefully.
