Each dog is different. I have had both. Too warm, too cold, too cramped, too noisy, not near an outer door, who knows? You can tell a lot about her based on where she does want to sleep!

My last dog moved from place to place in the night. My present dog always slept with me until she got to be about 12. It took me a while to discover that she now likes sleeping in a box right next to my bed. Well lined with a pillow and blanket. And another one next to my desk. Old dogs want to be very close.

I have a dog the will sit on my lap for about 20 seconds whereas the same dog sat on momma's lap until she got up. One real lap dog. The dog is now almost 15 years old I let her sleep in the kitchen in her bed as there are to many accidents. If I would let her she would love nothing better than to be up on the bed and under the blankets. Like Joy has said every dog is different. Even though my wife passed about a year and a half ago and I do everything for our dog, she is not my lap dog, no way. I just have to accept her independent thinking, and accept the fact she is a female. LOL

Maybe you can conn the dog with some on the bed treats?
