220v single phase motor run on two legs of three phase.
Can a standard 220v motor that is run on a common 110/220v supply be run using two legs of a three phase system? I have seen it done and the motor runs but eventually fails. Is the failure caused by the phase difference ie: 120 deg vs. 180 deg voltages or different voltages in the three phase systems.
    Thanks for your reply.

What is the voltage of the 3-phase? The voltage across any two legs would be greater than the voltage of each leg (though still a 60 Hz sine wave).
