This is an open book extra credit question. And no I would not have come here if it was not my last resort. My professor is that sleek so he knows we would not solve this question. His exact words were, "Nobody would solve this, but I would give you partial credit for trying." So please save me the lecture on how my homework benefit me and stuff. If you can't solve the problem or even try to answer, just say so. AGAIN, OPEN BOOK EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION. I am in glass doing this and guess what the Professor knows.

I am sorry but we do not 'give answers'. We are willing to give help to those who show their work and/or explain what issues they are having.
We do not help people cheat even on extra credit questions. Open book or not, it is supposed to be your work, not ours.
I can give a couple of hints on things to consider here. Think about the torque (turning force) you can apply to a wide versus narrow lid. Also think about the friction between the lid and the jar which you must overcome - does it depend on the width of the lid? Finally think about whether your hand and fingers can apply a greater or lesser force depending on how good your grip is - is it easier or harder to grasp a wider lid?
Mabe you should take more time looking at the title under RickJ's name than you obviously spent reading your textbook.
When I went to school INCLUDING college getting my engineering degree. If you couldn't do the extra credit yourself you didn't deserve the extra credit. If you can't pass an open book test... you really don't deserve to pass the class. Because they don't get any easier than those.
