If you are charged and given a bail amount... someone fronts that or you sit in jail until your trial. The judge decides if you get a chance at bail or not. Not everyone does. Others have to stay in jail until trial (a threat to the public or flight risk)... others (on very minor things) might not have to post bail at all.
