My top loading Kenmore washer model 110.92588210, direct drive, runs for 10 seconds and stops for a minute then starts and stops for longer than one minute, this continues and the stop time gradually increases with every restart. No matter which cycle I choose. There is no problem filling with water. I have checked the speed switch (Looks OK because the washer does the same thing in slow speed also) , the motor is not warm to the touch.

I do not see the timer knob moving, may be it is moving very slowly. I noticed burning smell near the timer. If the timer motor is not working and the timer is in spin or drain position, does the motor stops after few seconds, as a safety feature? Could this be Timer problem. Will it help if I replace the timer. It will cost me $100.

Can somebody take a stab to answer my question? How about you Ralph S?
