I worked as a J-1 student in 2014 in California. I have already completed federal tax return and now I want to complete state tax return. As a nonresident, I wasn't able to find free online service for my purpose, so I decided to mail my return.

Can you please list all forms/documents and attachments that I need to file as a J-1 nonresident student? Is it only form 540NR (Short) with form W2 or do I need to file something else (or more documents)?

I wasn't able to file before 15th of April. Should I file an extension? And if yes, where can I find the extension?

You will need to file Form 540NT, Schedule CA(NR), and the W-2(s).
