My wife and I just replaced our bathroom floor. While I had the toilet out I cleaned it very well with CLR, and cleaned all of the holes around the bottom of the rim. When I reinstalled the toiled to try it out, I find I've got no water coming out of the holes under the rim. Someone told me to make sure when the tank fills, it is filling into the overflow tube, I double checked that and it is.What else can look at/try?Thanks in advance

After you used the CLR did you rinse everything really well ? What does it do when you flush ?

I cleaned it all with the CLR, used a wire coat hanger and brush to make sure all the holes in the rim were cleaned, and then rinsed it all very well with the garden hose.
When I flush, it seems all the water just flushes down the back of the toilet... No water comes out of the holes around the rim.

If it is filling to the point that it over flows into the over flow tube your float is set wrong but that does not cause your problem. You should adjust the float so it fills AND STOPS 1/4" below the top of the tube. Do that, test it and get back to use. BTW "Someone told me to make sure when the tank fills, it is filling into the overflow tube" that guy is totally wrong, stop getting advice from him.

Maybe the way I described it was wrong. It does fill to about 1/4-3/8" below the top of the overflow tube. About the advice I got from the guy, he said that the fill tube should be squirting the water down into overflow tube to fill the tank. Is that incorrect? There is even a little clip that is holding the tube that the water comes from in such a way that the water does go into the overflow tube.

Ok, much better. That little black tube does clip on and point down into the over flow tube. In clip it and double check that water shoots out the black plastic line.

Did you have the toilet upside down when you were using the coat hanger?

It was right side up

Does water from the rim, run down the sides of the toilet bowl when you flush?

No, it doesn't.

Does the toilet sit level from front to back?
Raise seat, put 2" level on rim from back to front. If front is higher than back, then naturally water will not flow out front holes.

Suggestion, but only if you are desperate to save this toilet.

Take the toilet up.
Remove the tank and seat.
Put bead of caulking on rim.
Put a 2x2 piece of plywood on toilet. Effectively caulking the plywood to the rim of the toilet.

Turn toilet bowl up side down.

Rinse toilet out through the discharge port. Maybe that will back flush out any debris or mineral deposits in the rim cavity, loosened by the CLR.

Nothing to lose here but caulking and time.

You should be getting water from the rim when you flush. That should be washing down the sides. That little bitty stream of water from the refill tube is to fill the bowl. It does not provide enough volume or pressure to flow all around the rim and come out all the holes.

I think you have a clogged channel that feeds water to the rim holes.

Try this and start at step 3.

Removing the tank from the toilet also gives you access to this channel shown as a black arrow, that feeds the rim holes.

It may not be mineral deposits clogging things up and you would be amazed at the stuff that can get into this channel.

This afternoon we are leaving town and will be back in three days. In your opinion would it hurt anything to leave the "hard water deposit or lime dissolving cleaner" sit for a couple days rather than just 8-24 hours? 2. The cleaner/deposit dissolving cleaner I've used in the past is CLR, do you think that is the right thing to use? I think it would be better to see where you are at after a day, since it may well be a foreign object obstructing your channel to the rim holes.

Ok, maybe I'll wait I till we get back after weekend. Is CLR the product you'd recommend? Or something else?
