Recently, I moved into a house where I rent a room. There is quite a few people living in the house already whom I did not know before. I come from a large family and really enjoy my privacy.

The people they are nice, however one of the housemates I find has become very clingy.
I have so much work to do, as I am freelance designer. I feel all she is lonely, and either wants to chat or debate, usually a debate:( for the whole evening or use my computer to surf on the net when I am working. I can't be nasty and say I need some privacy/space. I just don't have anything in common with this girl.

How do I loose this clingy person?

Perhaps you could say something like "Mary (only use her real name or it's gonna be real confusing to her) I need to work tonight but maybe we can do something this Saturday afternoon." In other words don't blow her off completely, but just set up a time for her on the weekend or whenever it's convienent for you. That way she'll still feel wanted, she'll give you the time you need, and still wind up with a friend out of it.

Chuff's idea is good. You can say things gently to her. But if she doesn't get it then and you have work to do then there is nothing wrong with a bit of honesty.

Sorry Mary, but I'm real busy tonight and I have a deadline to meet and I can't get it done with you talking to me so if you don't mind we can catch up tomorrow?

Well I can tell you this if you don't figure something out, you will eventually get so sick of her that you will become hurtfully. Just maybe tell her you need to be alone, and after a few nights she will "get it " if you feel really bad take her out once in a while, but hanging out in the house will get old quick.

Be honest, straight forward, and tactful. Your busy now, see you later.
