I am working to replace our 25 year old neo angle shower door/panels but keep the existing base/walls unit. The problem I'm having is that the current dims 18.75" x 23" x 18.75" don't fit anything standard so far as I've found.

Now I recently found a replacement size of 18" x 24" x 18" which is closer than anything I've found. I checked those measurements on my base ledge, and it appears it would work, albeit not aesthetically correct with the 45 deg angles lining up exactly on the base, and sitting a bit forward of center on the ledge.


Am I missing any other issues, or is this really a bad idea? Just trying to affordably/easily replace the doors on an outdated sized unit.

You should call a local small shower door company and get an estimate for a custom door, tey are not as bad as you might think.

Thanks ballengerb, if you know of one specially in the Mpls/St. Paul Mn area that you could suggest, I 'd appreciate it. I found local and box store quotes for a my dimensions in the $900 - $1500 range. The one I listed with the 24" door is an American Standard model for just under $500 with an internet coupon. Plus I can also get it at Home Depot for just over $500. So, I'm not sure a custom is in this price range. Please advise if they are, as I only know the places I could find. So, is it a problem to mount the slightly larger door on the base? Even if it is an opinion, I'm looking for honesty, no problem.

I am near Chicago so no help with a recommendation. I recently remodeled a shower and opted out for the door. Big Box store quotes were $2100 to $2500. Found a local shop who made the door and installed it for $1400. This was a very nice door too. 1/4 glass treated with spot resistant coating, one 58" non-movable panel with a swing door mounted on the wall making it frame-less.

I see no real issue with your plan. Here, I have done many neo-angle shower units and I have worked with many different remodeling carpenters and tile guys and some have squared the walls up and added excessive thin set to tile the walls and although this threw the door angle off a bit (like you mention), all turned out just fine with the job. I say order unit and then DRY FIT the base pieces only and see what you think. If you don't like how things line up return the unit. Otherwise, install the unit.
