I have a 2 1/2 ton Janitrol condenser, model CK30-1 that was installed in 1995. I also have a 2 1/2 ton Goodman air handler with optional electric heat, model AR30-1 that was installed in 2001. My house was built in 1976 and was origanally fitted with 2 1/2 ton capacities. The problem is my house is a little over 1500 square feet and 2 1/2 tons is not quite big enough. We set our thermostat at 78 during the day and the inside air does not get below 80 degrees. The system has an orifice metering device with no TXV. When the outide air is 99 degrees, the attic air temp is 135. We installed a ridge vent and radiant barrier the last time we had the roof re-shingled but this has not helped. Is their a way to achieve better cooling capacity without installing a whole new system, like say a 3 ton coil or a TXV or anything else? Thank you!
