    F1(OPT) Tax Exemptions ?
Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is my situation:

I come from Hong Kong with an UK citizenship in summer 2002. After 4 years of study as a F-1 student, I'm now employed as an OPT full-time financial analyst in Los Angeles (started 01/2007). My employer has filed the H1-B application for me so hopfully I'll become a H-1 worker in October.

My question is for the period from 01/07 to 09/30 am I exempted to pay any social security & medicare taxes? How about Federal & State (CA) taxes? And which individual tax form should I file in the same time next year?

I greatly appreicate for anyone who can address my concerns.

    Thanks!:)

No, you are NOT exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes. The exempt status that goes with the F-1 visa expired on 31 December 2006.

In 2007, you are a resident alien, and you have the legal obligation to inform your employer of that fact.
