    Birth Control Problem
I've been on the depo shot for a year and a half and I'm 17. I've been doing research about the shot causing infertility. I don't want to get pregnant anytime soon but the thought of kids in the future crosses my mind. I just am wondering how long is too long to be on the depo shot? I haven't had any negative side effects on my depo and it's a really coinveient way for me to practice some kind of birth control I just don't want any long term effects.

Discuss this with your physician. They can best advise you of any dangers.

Just remember that no form of birth control is 100% effective.

General guide is no longer than 2 years. One concern is the possible effect on bone loss, especially as a teen.

Your doctor should have gone over potential pros and cons, but unfortunately, they don't always do so, or are not very thorough, and many people do not read the information a doctor might give them.

Set an appointment to speak to your doctor before you are due for your next injection. An alternative form of birth control might be a better option at this point.
