I recently had a problem with my toilet (I live in a condo). After I flush, the water wouldn't stop and still flowing small amount of water to the toilet. I stopped the water supply and I consulted the plumber and they told us to replace the toilet valve. We replaced the valve and the toilet is working normally now. Never had a flood or excessive water on the ground. However, the unit below us complained that there are stains leakage from our unit directly from the toilet. My question is can a faulty toilet valve cause leakage to the unit below?

"excessive water ...." But you did have water? Could have flowed under the toilet and around the flange through the floor.

Do you own or rent, is there an association?

Yes, we have water. Since the water keeps flowing on the toilet bowl, we shut off the water supply. There is no water on the floor though.

I own the unit. No association.

In this warmer weather, excessive water flow could cause condensation to form on the water supply pipe and that could cause a stain below... I suppose. Otherwise, working on the toilet could have loosened the closet bolts, or it could just be a coincidence and the wax gasket failed at about the same time the fill valve failed??

The reason I asked is there are normally rules governing who and how repairs are made to a condo common area. When you bought the unit did you get a set of regulations about how common areas are maintained like the roof, driveway, lawn, inside the walls?
