Hello.
I have a 1994 Honda Accord and we were in the Blue Ridge Mountains going up a steady incline. I had my A/C running and notice my car started slowing down. I turned my a/c off it gained some momentum.. Why?
AC and the incline pulled the power down slowing the vehicle, particularly if a stick shift and you didn't downshift. Newer Honda's have an auto AC cut off, at least my 2005 CRV does, when the AC is on and you press the gas pedal down past a set point.
Turning your A/C on drains about 5% of the engine's power.
