I wanted to install a new floor in my master bedroom, but discovered some interesting metal straps nailed to the floor.
I suspect they may be earthquake chimney straps, since they are positioned at the place of the chimney on the 1st floor.
They are however sticking out pretty high above the floor (almost 1/2 an inch), so this will interfere with my laminate floor.

• - Can someone tell me what these things are?
• - Any suggestions as to how I can put the floor in?

1. a. remove the straps???
2. b. raise the floor with plywood and somehow create a transition to the hallway floor???

Can you show us a picture of the strap. It will make it easier to help you. Is there a sub floor that the new finished floor is going on?
