A movie about thieves. Not To Catch a Thief
I saw a movie one Saturday afternoon in the 80's. The film could have been from the 60's 0r 70's and was in color.

The leading man claimed to be a retired thief and lived in a villa practicing painting as a hobby. I recall two leading ladies. One, a brunette, came to see him and told him that she was a thief and was inspired by his retirement. However, she had stolen something and wanted to return it as her way of atoning. The two hatch a plan to use timed ignition packs, placed in the museums furnace, to slowly raise the temperature in the museum to body temperature so they could fool the heat sensors. To do this they had to be in their underwear as wearing clothing would raise their body temperature and set off the sensors. As they pull this off she got him to return the jewels or whatever they were and in the meantime she went to steal something else. I have searched for this movie for years and would love to get an answer? It is not "To Catch a Thief." Thank you.

A Fine Pair (1968) starring Rock Hudson and Claudia Cardinale
    From IMDb:
Married NYPD Captain Mike Harmon receives a visit from Esmeralda Marini, who he has not seen in 12 years, since she was a child. She is the daughter of an old police colleague from Italy, now deceased. Mike recalls those six months in Italy as the happiest in his life. She has come to New York to ask specifically for Mike's help, her father telling her always to trust Mike if she's in trouble. She finally admits to him that she is a jewel thief but that she wants to turn over a new leaf by returning the jewels she and a well-known criminal stole from the safe of the villa of wealthy and famous Ogden Fairchild in Austria. Since the Fairchilds are not home at the moment, they do not know that the jewels are missing. So, Mike figures that, if they can break into the villa and replace the jewels before the Fairchilds return, Esmeralda will not have to face prosecution.
