I have been arrested maybe six times in my life. Convicted on 2 charges, battery charge 23 years ago and a petty thieft 18 years ago. I was asked by a school dist, to get a DOJ ? And finger prints from the FBI. It's a great job but I think my pass will catch up to me. I haven't had a steady job in 5 years. How will this affect my chances and how far back do they go. Also can I pay for it myself and have it done before the school. And who see's this report? Need answers Please W.V. state of California.

I twill be part of your employee record meaning everyone that would have access to that will have access to this, and everyone involved in the hiring process will have access to it.... assuming you manage to get it. Personally I think the odds are really slim, and depending on what the job is and contact with the kids you might have... it might even be impossible.. If anything should happen while you are under the employment of the school district They would be held responsible as well. Yep... its the past but everyone's past actions can affect their future, not just people with criminal records.

Thank you for being brutally honest, I pretty much thought it was a wash out. I know some of these people personally and they know me for the person I grew into being. I cannot change the pass but I can look towards the future, too bad it was a great job and I was pick over dozens of suiters. Thanks for your time. Peace

Give it a shot... Worst they can do is say no...unless you fear these people seeing the information. And hearing no is a good chance for most people anyway in this economy, record or not. Don't give up on a longshot. The best jobs I've had were longshots when I applied.

I agree, try, be honest on the application, and see what happens. Never give up, without trying.

If, by chance, OP is denied the lead Irrigation job (which, I would think has no student-interaction component anyway) on the basis of a few convictions some 20 years ago, OP would appear to have a good lawsuit, particularly since he or she was approved for the job.

A councilman is a man who is a member of a council (a city council, for example).

    I believe you mean "counselor".

But yes, we look forward to the good news.
