We'll a few weeks ago.. I got caught stealing from kohls. As I walked they asked me to stop and I ran. I had never done anything like this, never had a record, so I was scared and ran. Of coarse they chased me. Before I had went into kohls I had went to target which was right next door in which I did not steal and I had 3 bag from there. Oh and I actually did buy a sweater at kohls on sale too. I had my purse and a pair of boots which was in the other bag from target. I think the cost of everything I took was about $40. So while their chasing me a man and a girl I drop everything like an idiot. Then I just kept going and went home. After I realize I had everything in my purse, wallet, phone, meds, all my things I did buy. I just wished I would have just got caught and went to jail for a night, instead of leaving everything. Anyway a couple days ago I got a letter in the mail from a lawyer saying to pay a civil something. Whoch I plan on paying. But my question is will I ever get those things back and if yes how would I go about doing it. Thanks so much.

If Kohls sells the same product that was in the bags, assume you won't. Using a receipt for another store to cover for a theft from another is a common tactic shoplifters have used for decades. Unless they actually have ALL Target sku tags and price tags still on them, then its possible. Anything new they can't positively identify as being from another store they are allowed to assume was from theirs.

You would have to contact that security office of that store and present proof those are actually your items... and you are who you claim... (like with Birth Certificate or something other than what's in the bags. That's who will have them minus what they decide is store property.

They can and likely will make it difficult on you to do. They might also ban you from at least that store if not all Khols. If they do, it would be a criminal trespass charge if you returned. But that's up to the store and their security office if they decide to do that or not.

You need to go to the store, and ask for your things back, if you want them, at least your wallet and phone and so on.

If all the do, is the civil part, pay it, and feel lucky they did not involve the police

If you would read the news lately, you might notice a pattern: try to run away and you may very well end up dead.

No, but the OP does seem to be remorseful for the fact that she "drop[ped] everything like an idiot."

She can consider herself fortunate I don't work in the security dept and that she didn't do this where I worked once upon a time... they prosecuted EVERY incident no matter the value. Employee OR customer. If there is a next time...she might find one like them. Then good luck getting bonded or working any job that handles cash.
